If I may, I was wondering when someone would notice what letter-writer Keith Kondrich has noticed -- that "the real opium of thepeople is sports" ("Sports dopes," Letters, June 3 and PghTrib.com).
At the Trib's Internet discussions site, there have been a numberof posts dealing with what was holding Pittsburgh back, what was thecause of this situation and possibly what might be done to fix thisproblem.
To those who wonder, I suggest that they read "Sports dopes." Theanswers are there, for those with a will to view them.
Pittsburgh will likely never much advance until it is weaned offits addiction to sports. While many people enjoy "playing ball" -- Iused to also -- there comes a time to grow up.
