VIC: New asbestos laws to help victims in compensation fight

MELBOURNE, Feb 22 AAP - Rogue companies that deliberately delayed asbestos damages
claims in court to avoid compensation payouts will be banned from such tactics under new
Victorian laws.

Attorney-General Rob Hulls said under current laws defendants used various tactics
to slow court proceedings in the hope the victim died before the case was settled.

Mr Hulls said it was intolerable that lawyers would use such methods and further the
strain on dying victims simply to avoid compensation payments.
