Strikers question Tribune chief exec

Striking members of the Chicago Tribune's production unionsyesterday got their first public opportunity to plead their casepersonally to Tribune Co. President and Chief Executive OfficerStanton R. Cook.

The forum was the question-and-answer period of the Tribune'sannual stockholder meeting.

The company reported record net operating profits of $241million for 1985, a 28 percent increase, on revenues of $1.94billion, up 8 percent. Net income rose to $124 million, up 20percent, also a Tribune Co. record.

Cook told shareholders, "I think prospects are good for earningsto improve again this year," but gave no specifics. Next week,Tribune Co. will report its …
